Which is more efficient, a natural gas fireplace or an electric fireplace?
That depends entirely on the price varient in YOUR particular area for gas and for electricity.. I would strongly suspect that a natural gas would be more economical and throw out a better heat than electricity.. I am fairly sure of that no matter where you are.All the electric "fireplaces" I've seen don't even give off heat, they just look like a fire. However, there may be some that do. If so, they would probably be more efficient than the gas ones, as we had a gas one in one of the houses we had once and had to use it a lot one winter bc our heat pump kept having problems, and we had gas bills that were +300! But it probably wouldn't be so bad if you didn't use it much. I think the gas ones (that produce a real fire) are prettier. by lisamburt
I will assume here you mean a flame producing fireplace. Gas is always the more efficient fuel to use. Meantime these are kind of decorative fireplaces and should only be used for that purpose, heating should be limited to the immediate area around the fireplace itself. If you continue to have heating difficulties I would invest in another source of heat. Meantime we lived in an old house, well insulated with a log fireplace and often had gas bills of over $700 and that was 20 years ago! by gazeygoo
