How can we make our wood burning furnace burn hotter?
We have a new exterior wood burning furnace. It is much larger than our last one. It has been installed for four to five days now. The burning temperature is at about 150 degrees. It is not heating our house sufficiently. The old furnace would burn at about 180 degrees. Is this the problem? How do we correct it? More wood? Big wood? Small wood? Please help.

Is a standard 6" gas furnace chimney flue acceptable for an add on wood burning furnace?
We are thinking about getting an add on wood burning furnace. Wondering if we need to make changes to the existing flue, or need to go with a wood burning stove instead. Advice as well as informative links would be appreciated. Thank you.

Plans for outside wood burning furnace.?
I am looking for plans for an outside wood burning furnace, much like the hardy wood burning furnace. I see plans selling on ebay for $30 and just wondered if anyone had a file they would be willing to share. I'd also like to hear of anyone who has built theres and see what they thought about building it verses buying one. Thanks! Please, replies from people that know what an outside woodburning furnace is. The duct work ties into your houses duct work and thermostatically heats your home.

Outdoor Wood burning Furnace Questions?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any info on alternative heating solutions. We currently heat with propane and it's very expensive. Does anyone know how outdoor furnaces work? Our home is 2,000 sq. feet and I was wondering what size furance I should look in to. The most important question is: What is the total cost of the furnace with installation. Ball park figure. If anyone has any info that they would like to share about the best brand of outdoor wood burning furnaces, and the cost. Please don't hesitate to E-mail me. Thanks so much, Stacy

Wood Burning Furnace?
My current heating system is a oil fired hot water heat. The house was built with a second flue that has never been used. I am considering adding a wood fired hot air furnace as suplimental and emergency heat. The furnace would be installed in the basement. I would add ducts for the basement and first floor but not the second floor. (Yes I know it would be better to have ducts to the second floor but that is not possible without significant work.) The house is about 2500 sq ft, two story with a full basement. I was considering the Englander 28-3500 which is available from Home Depot. Does anyone know anything about these. Are there other similar wood fired hot air furnaces that I should look at? I'm in Maine.

Which type of wood heat is best for this situation? Wood stove or Wood furnace? Indoor or outdoor?
Just bought an old farmhouse with 2400 square feet built in 1920. It has a newer electric forced air system and is very expensive in winter to heat so we want to put some type of wood heat. Wood is plentiful and cheap here. There are two old chimneys that are presently covered up and would need work to use. One is in the kitchen and one in the living room. I was thinking about a dual purpose wood cook stove that would heat the house as well but now I am thinking maybe a wood furnace might be better or more efficient. What are the differences between the indoor and outdoor wood-burning furnaces & (from someone who has one) what do you like about having a wood burning furnace? Also, does a wood burning furnace use it's own chimney or does it have to be hooked up to on that is already there. Of course I have calls in to a few companies -but everyone is out for the holidays and I won't hear back until next week so I am asking for opinions here. Thanks! more details: I am home full time and do not mind tending to a woodstove. I kind of enjoy it. And the more I think about it I would have to admit that, just as important as saving money, is the fact that I love the way wood heat feels.

I need advice about the wood burning fireplace in my home.?
I would like to use the fireplace to help heat my small home so I don't have to run the furnace as much throughout the winter months. I have read that a fireplace is not an efficent source of heat. Can anything make it more efficent?

Make electricity with steam at home?
This is probably a silly idea but I really like the idea of making my own electricity. I've thought about solar and wind but neither would really work for me. My wife & I will be building a new home in 9-10 years and I have a new idea.... We want to have one of those outdoor wood burning furnaces to heat the house. Is there such a thing as a small steam powered electric generator? If there is, maybe I could use some of the heat generated in the furnace to boil water, make steam and turn a small turbine to generate electricity. This way, I could heat my home in the winter and make my own electricity all year long just with wood. Just an idea (maybe a stupid one). If anyone has any info on this subject please share it with me. Thanx.
