Whats the best product - procedure to use to remove a "Duraflame" smoke stain from my outdoor marble fireplace
I just installed an outdoor wood burning fireplace and last night I had my first fire. Instead of using wood, I used a duraflame log which burned nicely for a while but after a couple hours (and a little poking to get the fire going) it started to smoke rather badly. As a result, the marble on front of the fireplace has been stained by the smoke of the duraflame and I'm having a real hard time removing it. Is there a product or procedure that someone can recommend to remove the smoke damage? I've been told that the duraflame logs are basically made from a waxy substance and that the smoke damage caused by one of these "logs" is a little different than smoke damage caused by burning wood. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should the EPA grow some teeth and outlaw all wood burning fireplaces? Maybe help financially to replace them?
If the EPA would help low income people (who rely on wood burning for their heat source) with vouchers to get a clean burning heater-could we then ban all outdoor ATV use on public land?

Weber Outdoor Gas Fireplace - Opinions Please!?
I am considering purchasing a Weber outdoor gas fireplace to replace my outdoor wood burning fireplace. My daughter loves to go outside and roast hot dogs and marshmallows. I am tried of waiting for the fire to go out (I'm paranoid!) and having wood on hand. I thought the Weber would be a good alternative. Any opinions or experiences you could share? Thanks!

How can I use a gas log lighter with ceramic logs, so an outdoor fireplace can burn wood and use gas logs?
Gas log lighters for wood are pretty similar to burners for gas log fireplaces. The primary difference appears to be the added embers and cinders placed on and around a burner for gas log fireplaces to make the flame appear more realistic. I want to use a gas log lighter some similar fashion so we can also burn wood in an outdoor fireplace. So far, the few people I have talked to have all said that a log lighter just won't work, but haven't really been able to explain why. I have considered installing two log lighters, side by side or one on top of the other, and/or modifying a log lighter with more flame outlets (holes) at random locations. Is there really some reason why a log lighter can't be used for both wood and ceramic logs? Thanks.

Secluded cabin/cottage in the middle of the woods for rent within 3 hours of DC?
I'm interested in a nature getaway weekend in the Shenandoah Valley, or anywhere within 3 hour drive of DC for that matter. Can anyone give recommendations on where to stay that is isolated/secluded/in the middle of the woods (basically I don't want to see hordes of tourists as I step right outside)? The only things important to me are private bathroom and wood-burning fireplace, don't care about phone/TV. Needless to say I would prefer to be close to trails, waterfalls/lakes, wineries and outdoor activities such as hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, fall foliage viewing, etc. Thank you for any suggestions.
