How hard is it to build a chimney for a wood burning fireplace?
I am pretty handy, and am confident that I can handle it with some instruction. I already priced the block, liner, and assorted pieces at a brickyard, so I have access to all the parts. My question then becomes other than mortar on the block do I attach the tile liner sections together as well, or just stack them. Does the liner get attached to the block? is this harder than it seems? also have you done this before? and how hard was it for you...would you do it again?

Can I remove my gas logs and make my fireplace wood burning?
I never use my gas fireplace because of the cost of natural gas however I would like to take my gas logs out, shut off the gas and make it wood burning. Is that possible/safe? It is an all brick fireplace and chimney. It has a fairly large flue so I think it could accomodate the smoke. Has anyone done this with a fireplace that was built as gas?

Can I convert a gas fireplace back to a wood burning fireplace & is it expensive?
Originally a wood burning fireplace, was converted to natural gas about 7 years ago. All original fireplace still there including damper, chimney flue, and intake vents. My thought was to go back about 8 to 10 feet and cap the gas line, then remove gas line, burner and fake logs in fireplace. Lastly get a pro (plummer?) to inspect before I light a fire. Safe for a medium skill level handyman to do?

Zero Clearance Wood Burning Fireplace?
Zero Clearance Wood Burning Fireplace? My home doesn't have a traditional fireplace with a chimney. Is there a such thing as a wood burning fireplace that is easy to install in the living room without connecting it to gas? I don't want to use gas, just the wood as a fuel, so I can smell the burning wood and hear it crackle. . Is there a type of zero-clearance fireplace that does that??

If I place a wood burning stove in my regularly used open fireplace do I still need to line the chimney?
If I place a wood burning stove in my regularly used open fireplace do I still need to line the chimney or can I run the flu part way up the chimney and just use a blanking plate? The house is 160 years old but the fireplace in question is good and solid and there are no 'leaks' with an the open fire. Many thanks.
